Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi! I’m Lukas, a 35-year-old father of two. Besides working at Klayr, I have a passion for running—it’s when I get my best business ideas! In addition to that, I enjoy working on our house and doing woodworking projects. Right now, I’m building a new garden bench, and I recently finished an outdoor kitchen.
What are your passions and hobbies? Share with us 2 fun facts about you.
I’m a big fan of Dutch folk music and never miss a chance to perform at karaoke! I also have a passion for skiing. Each winter, my girlfriend and I escape to the Austrian Alps for a few weeks to enjoy some serious skiing tours. We can ski up to 90 kilometers in a day—it’s proper winter sports fun! I also love the après-ski; after all, performance needs to be rewarded.
What brought you to Web3, and what is, for you, the most exciting thing about it?
The speed of innovation in this space is incredible, which is what attracted me to Web3. Coming from the corporate world, where I focused on digital transformation, Web3 is a whole new level. Here, automation isn’t just a goal; it’s at the heart of everything we do. The potential impact of Web3 is what truly inspires me. Bridging the traditional world of tech and Web3 has become a personal mission of mine.
What excites you the most about working with and at Klayr?
Klayr is awesome! It’s incredible to see what we have achieved as a team in such a short period of time, and I’m proud of our collective effort. I’m really excited about what lies ahead and have great confidence that we can accomplish amazing things together.
How did you become a Web3 founder? What advice would you give to future web3 founders?
Timing is everything. When you start building a startup, you don’t have much time to make it happen. If your timing is off, success will be hard to achieve. Additionally, minimize technological dependencies that are beyond your control, as product roadmaps are always delayed. Relying on someone else’s timeline can jeopardize your startup, often without any recourse.
As CEO of a new startup, what has been your biggest challenge so far? Did you overcome it? If so, how?
Klayr was founded when we decided to take over the L1 platform from Lisk. This meant assembling a team to advance the platform, setting up legal entities, rebranding, defining a strategy, creating a product roadmap, and keeping the community engaged—all within three months. It was challenging, but we succeeded by having a solid founding team with a diverse skill set, allowing us to tackle everything in parallel.
In your opinion, what are the 5 best skills a person can develop to be a true leader?
I strongly believe that the primary role of a leader is to enable team members to excel in their jobs by providing clear scope, expectations, and a safe environment to deliver. Additionally, a leader must unite everyone behind a common goal. That’s it. Pretty simple, right? 😉
For people interested in joining blockchain companies, what would you recommend?
Go for it—it’s a space with endless possibilities where you can truly develop yourself as a professional. Be aware, though, that it’s a unique world with its own jargon, working methods, and habits. It will take time to understand how it all works, but the journey is worth it.
What is the message you want to send to other Klayniacs?
