The 2024 edition of the European Blockchain Convention (EBC) held in Barcelona was a milestone for Klayr Labs and we were well represented by our founders, Lukas Bronsvoort and Jurre Machielsen. As one of the startups selected for the Startup Battle, the event offered us a fantastic opportunity to connect with the broader blockchain community, showcase our work, and forge new partnerships. Here’s a recap of our journey at EBC.
The Startup Battle Experience
Several reasons took Klayr to this convention. The main one was being selected as one of the Top 50 startups to pitch at the EBC Startup Battle. Competing alongside some of the most innovative startups in the space, our CEO, Lukas Bronsvoort, represented Klayr Labs in front of an esteemed jury.
The pitch experience was incredibly valuable. While we didn’t take home the victory, the questions posed by the jury were challenging, but fair, pushing us to reflect on our project and explore more opportunities within Klayr. Most importantly, the exposure connected us with other projects, investors, and potential partners who expressed interest in building on Klayr.
Ambassador Program and Beyond
One of the most rewarding aspects of the convention was the chance to build bridges for our ambassador program. Engaging with so many people interested in decentralized technology has fueled our ambition to create a vibrant and empowered community around Klayr. We’re excited to see how these new relationships will help us accelerate our outreach.

Dutch Blockchain, but make it español
As a company from the Netherlands, we made sure to attend some of the side events, including a special side event by BCNL (Blockchain Netherlands) and Bitvavo. It was inspiring to witness the innovation coming from our home country. The strong Dutch presence at the convention highlighted how committed the Netherlands is to blockchain development, making us proud to be part of the movement.
A Perfect Mix of Work and Play
Barcelona itself was a fantastic host! Between networking, meetings, and pitching, our team also took a moment to enjoy the local culture. With great food and awesome weather, it was the perfect setting to balance work and relaxation.
Our CCO, Jurre, arrived a day earlier and took some time to explore parts of the city (including a quick stop at La Sagrada Familia) while doing a few calls during the day. Our CEO even managed to squeeze in a morning run and take a refreshing dive in the ocean before the day kicked off—a nice reminder of the beautiful energy Barcelona brings.
